THE PIECED DRESS

After two years of constructing quilts, I decided to make a dress. The pattern I found on Tessuti was born for piecing because the bodice and the skirt are split into panels. Why not do even more splitting? Why not create vivid pieced hems that combined all the great remnant textiles left from the quilt-making and the mask-making from early 2020?

I made a couple Pieced Dresses for myself and then received requests. That has been the great adventure – collaborating with the wearer when it comes to colors and textile patterns and making the dresses fit. Along the way I have upped my game to include French seams, Hong Kong seams, my first zipper in many decades, and learning sleeves.

I never tire of the dance of pattern and unexpected color. Lucky me.

If you are interested in having a Pieced Dress, email me so I can send you more information on the process.

We can go from there.
