project 04
yukata mix

My long-time best friend is a scholar of Asian ceramics. When she recently moved to a smaller space, she sent me a box of yukata. They had been collected and worn over decades, while she lived in Japan. A yukata is essentially a lightweight form of kimono, worn casually and made from thinner, lighter material than the traditional silk kimono. The yukata Louise passed on to me are soft yet vivid. I know they are rich with stories.

I asked Louise if she would like a pieced throw or coverlet that would combine the yukata cloth with contemporary quilting fabrics. Her inspiration to make a gift for a dear friend, an artist and teacher, was perfect, and my yukata adventure began.
