A wedding quilt

When my daughter made the lovely decision to remarry and move her family to a new home 800 miles away, I thought a quilt was in order. She has two quite distinct sides to her personality – one is high energy and accomplishment, manifested in pattern and vivid contrast. The other is a desire for calm, serenity, and nature at its most quiet.

So that is how I planned the king-sized bed cover – lively on one side, peaceful on the other. Her heritage is Scandinavian, making the hunt for the lively fabric rooted in Marimekko style. For the quiet side, I printed images I had composited from photographs onto quilting cotton, prepared for just that purpose. I surrounded these images with pale creams, whites, and grays ---plus half-square triangles of crisp white-on-white pattern.
